Be inspired...you choose..in math?

How many times in a classroom were you given an assignment in math that you had no motivation to solve or where to begin? When deciding what book to read I go through a selection process...I talk to friends about what they have read lately...I read reviews on the web...I go to a book store, look at covers, titles, and read the first few pages before I decide how to spend my time reading. Why don't we try this approach in math? Can't we have a choice on what problems are interesting to solve as long as we are using the concepts we need to learn. Can we have different approaches or ways to demonstrate our knowledge? We can't expect people to have the same interests or solve all problems in the same way. Think about it...
